About

A Colonoscopy is an exam that looks for abnormal changes: swelling, irritation, inflammation, or abnormal growths (lipoma, polyps, or cancer) in the large intestine (colon) and rectum.

During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted into the rectum to allow a Gastroenterologist to inspect and examine the inside of the entire colon via a tiny video camera at the tip of the colonoscope. Abnormal tissue can be biopsied (sampled) and removed through the colonoscope interventional channel.

For your scheduled colonoscopy, you’ll need to prepare/clean out your bowels beforehand.

Adequate preparation is essential to a successful colonoscopy for your doctor to properly examine for signs of colorectal polyps and cancers and prevent complications.
